Atif aslam & Qayaas:The rock, Rap, raga and rhythm of Coke Studio season 5
We’re super excited about the new season of Coke Studio. The first episode has come and gone and we’re still not past it. Atif
Aslam and Qayaas didn’t belt out a prog-rock tune and instead opted to
sing Bulleh Shah’s ‘Charkha Nolakha’ in a beautiful, melodic manner with
both Atif and Umair Jaswal breathing life into verses with their
distinct voices. And thankfully, they managed to do it right. This
season we’re being introduced to the Punjabi rapping style of Bohemia
who made quite a mark with his tune ‘Paisay Da Nasha' on the show. There
was Hadiqa Kiyani who went the Sufi way with ‘Kamlee’ while Humayun
Khan introduced us to Pashto with ‘Larsha Pekhawar Ta’. But that’s not
all. The upcoming fifth season will bring back qawwals Fareed Ayaz and
Abu Mohammed who stole the show last season with their epic rendition of
‘Kangna’. Meesha Shafi is back and she has another collaboration in the
pipeline. Rachel Viccaji will join Farhad Humayun on Overload’s tune
‘Neray Aah’. Bilal Khan, Uzair Jaswal, Overload, Qayaas and Atif Aslam -
all have individual performances coming up. Folk songs are not behind
with upcoming performances from Chakwal group and Tahir Mithu. It’s
promising to be an exciting musical ride and we can’t wait to kick back
and relax with the uber cool ‘Made in Pakistan’ grooves that make Coke
Studio the most anticipated music show of the year.
