Pakistan�s rock sensation Atif Aslam believes that every new album he cuts takes him that much more closer to God.
�While commercial success is integral to the popularity
of any singer, spirituality is just as important. I don�t
need a time and place to share my quiet time with God,�
Atif Aslam told Metrolife.
This from a man, who has thousands of fans, comes as a
surprise. Singing was unplanned. Atif confesses that he�s
no trained singer but has a gifted rawness and a certain
inimitable power in his voice. �Yes, I work a lot on my
voice modulation. That�s something that I really don�t
tamper with too much,� says Atif.
He will be signing his first Bollywood movie, Bol soon,
�I am not acting for fame and fortune. It is something
that I always wanted to try out,� observes Atif. He
thinks that the media is so powerful that it can either
make or mar a person.
Does his Pakistani nationality bother him? �The current
tense situation in Pakistan does trouble me at times. But
I believe music can spread happiness, peace and cheer in
such places,� he says.
Atif was put through an elaborate check at the
Commissioner�s office in Bangalore as soon as he arrived.
Did that tick him off? �The government is just doing its
duty. Besides, I received a lot of attention,� he gushes.
What has got people hooked onto his music? �It�s
straight, simple and uncomplicated. People can relate to
my music. I largely write about my life�s experiences and
themes that trigger my imagination,� he says.
Among Atif�s original compositions are Doorie, and Meri
Kahani, that instantly topped the charts. �My songs are a
reflection of me and my life. It�s unpretentious,� he
confesses.
Atif plans to settle down in Dubai pretty soon. What are
his impressions about Bangalore? �I like the fast-paced
life here. The people seem to like my music and that�s
really touching,� he wraps up.
