It was back in
2004 when he came, he sang and he conquered! Atif Aslam took pop music
in Pakistan to a whole new level. I remember how people went crazy over
his music and him back then and his fans are equally enthusiastic about
him today. His albums are the highest selling , his singles are the most
downloaded and his concerts are the craziest ones. Atif is probably the
most prominent singer to give his voice to Bollywood music and has
opened the doors of Bollywood for local talent. He gave a new definition
to the word stardom. That said, here are some of his best songs ever
that contribute towards making him the star that he is today!
‘Pehli Nazar Mein’
Race
Pehli
Nazar Mein’ is probably one of Atif’s best songs ever. This track was a
part of the Bollywood movie; Race’s album and it was the highlight of
the movie. From Indian clubs to local bazaars in Pakistan, it played
literally everywhere! The combination of Atif’s melodious vocals, soft
strumming of the guitar and Sameer’s poetic lyrics made ‘Pehli Nazar
Mein’ absolutely beautiful. A controversy was also raised about ‘Pehli
Nazar’ that the tune was copied from a Korean track but thankfully the
tune wasn’t composed by Atif and the fact remains that despite this
controversy, ‘Pehli Nazar’ stayed a hit.
‘Kuch Is Tarha’
Doorie
2006
not only saw Atif singing for Bollywood but was the year when Atif
released his second album called, Doorie. Every track in the album was a
treat to hear and highly addictive but it was ‘Kuch Is Tarha’ that
completely stood out. Beautiful lyrics and even more beautiful vocals
made ‘Kuch Is Tarha’ a song that will always be remembered by those who
enjoy quality music. There are tons of people who argue that Atif’s best
songs are from Bollywood and I wouldn’t disagree but ‘Kuch Is Tarha’
was completely a local track which makes it to his best songs list.
‘Tu Jaane Na’
Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani
Ajab
Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani was a
pointless movie and a major flop despite
the fact that it starred Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. However, there
were two tracks that saved this sinking ship and made this movie
memorable and interesting is the fact that both of these tracks were
sung by Atif Aslam. ‘Tu Jaane Na’ was one of these tracks. Composed by
Pritam, who himself is a brilliant music composer, ‘Tu Jaane Na’ was
nominated as the best song of the year and it was Atif’s vocals that
made it so. The same album had a version of ‘Tu Jaane Na’ sung by
another singer and it stood nowhere compared to Atif’s original. There’s
a Sufi element in this track which makes it absolutely unique and
beautiful. With ‘Tu Jaane Na’, Atif proved that there’s only one Atif
Aslam and no one can replace him! His emotive voice in the song breathed
life into this track.
‘Tera Honay Laga Hoon’
Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani
Very
rarely has Atif sung songs that are duets with female singers and it
was for Ajab Prem that he teamed with Alisha Chinoy for ‘Tera Honay Laga
Hoon’. Together they brought out a song that Bollywood will always be
proud of! Ashish Pandit’s lyrics and Pritam’s composition combined with
Atif’s vocals made the song a highlight of not just the film but of
Bollywood music in general for that year. Not only does the song have a
pleasant tune, the vocals are so harmonious. ‘Tera Hone Laga Hoon’ is a
dream-like song and is quick to enamor you with its simple yet ecstatic
music. It’s one of those songs that make you fall in love, literally,
with the song if nothing else.
‘Hona Tha Pyaar’
Bol
Many
of you might not have heard about this one, but ‘Hona Tha Pyaar’ is one
of Atif’s best tracks and the reason why it’s not so popular yet is
that it is from his upcoming movie, Bol. The song was somehow leaked on
YouTube and even though the movie’s production team tried it’s best to
take it off, they couldn’t because people had already downloaded it.
This one spread like wildfire on social networking forums like Facebook.
The tune is soft, the vocals are sweet and the lyrics are beautiful and
all this combined up to make ‘Hona Tha Pyaar’ a song that gets into
your head immediately. If you haven’t heard it yet, you must. Try
finding it on YouTube and if you can’t then Bol’s release date is just
around the corner!
