has been a long time since we last heard any news about The Pakistan America Peace Through Music Project. So, what have these guys been up to? According to a report released today by the official facebook page of Atif Aslam,
"Sonic Peacemakers: Atif Aslam, Lanny Cordola and Todd Shea
got together in July to perform together during Atif Aslam’s U.S.
summer tour. Events to raise awareness about Sonic Peacemakers were held
in Washington DC, Los Angeles and Seattle
attended by dignitaries such as Ambassador Wendy Chamberlain of The
Middle East Institute, Pervaiz Lodhie of NCHD, PAL-C and LEDtronics, Dr.
A.S. Abbasi and Aakid Ahmad of Convergence and The U.S. Muslim
engagement Initiative, and Sonic Peacemakers Ambassadors Mark Levine
(Professor of Middle Eastern Studies at UC-Irvine), Gilby Clarke (former guitarist with Guns ‘n’ Roses), and Michelle Coltrane (Daughter of the legendary John Coltrane).”
After
taking a break to spend time with family during the holy month of
Ramadan, Atif will again resume his tour in September and more Sonic
Peacemakers events will follow. Atif Aslam will also be recording
song(s) with the members of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan‘s band and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan at guitarist Mekaal Hasan‘s Digital Fidelity Studios in Lahore.
"Lanny has set up recording sessions at Gilby Clarke’s studio to continue work on the conceptual album "The Dreamer Awakes”
and will then go back to Pakistan with Todd and Atif to record with
members of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s band and singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
at Mekaal Hasan’s studio in Lahore.”
Sonic Peacemakers is planning to release its first two or three songs by October or November.
