Touching many souls

Music not only heals, it also mends. That was what Atif
Aslam proved during the weekend at his live concert in
the City.
At a time when netas and showmen have invoked Pakistan to
destroy a Bollywood film and the game of cricket, the
Pakistani singer did what only music can do: Spread the
word of peace from across the border.
Atif's fan following is legendary. And the scene was no
different in Bangalore. While one lady in the Bangalore
audience said that she was so crazy about Atif that she
could write a book, another middle-aged lady said she�d
forsake her husband for Atif.
Yet another young man had cancelled his tickets to fly
to his hometown to be there for the concert.
The frenzy and excitement were palpable through and
through the concert.
Atif instantly connected with the crowd and held them
through with his lively antics and brilliant voice
modulation. He opened the concert with Tum Hi Ho� then
followed that up with the best tracks from Tere Hone Laga
Hoon, Tu Jaane Na, Mahi Re, Tere Bin and
Adhat.
The audience lost no chance to sing along with him.
The rawness, emotion, poignancy and power in Atif�s voice
seem to have sunk into the heart, mind and body of all
the young people.
Atif�s amazing ability to modulate his voice from soft
to loud to a thundering sound was something that was
appreciated and cheered most by the audience.
The string extempore with his band had the crowd join in
with their own version of humming and hooting. While
screams, yells and �I love you Atif� from the audience
began to get louder, Atif too belted out the best of his
own compositions.
Shankar, a performer himself and his emcee wife Shalini
have a stock of almost all of Atif Aslam�s songs. �I am
mad about him. The lyrics are simple, straight and really
tugs at your heart strings,� says Shalini. Shankar sings
almost all of Atif�s songs and even imitates his voice
and style of singing. Nikhita of Dayanand College lost
her voice shouting and singing along with Atif.
�I tried to push down the barricade to get close to him.
I can�t believe that I actually saw him today,� says
Nikitha.
