Doorie Album Review
He is a man who needs no introduction. Atif Aslam, whose ‘Wo Lamhe’,
‘Aadat’ and ‘Tere Bin’ are still the top choices of music lovers, comes up
with his album titled ‘Doorie’ that is already enjoying the top spot in
the charts. Sachin Gupta and Atif compose for the album with Mithoon chipping in with a single.
Doorie (Original, House Mix and Energy Mix) [Music: Sachin Gupta, Lyrics: Sachin Gupta]
When you hear Atif coming up with a nice little ‘aalap’ at the beginning
of the title song ‘Doorie’, you very well get the picture of what’s in the
offering from the rest of the album. A love song with an element of
tragedy to it, it utilizes Atif’s strength i.e. his singing in a
controlled manner to the fullest and turns out to be an amazing number
that is just the right track to open a romantic album like this.
A beautiful rock track by Sachin Gupta that makes an impression in the
very first listening, it is bound to make you remember someone who was once closest to you! For the remix versions, DJ Akbar Sami gets into the
groove and does what he is best at - create a spellbinding outing that
would just make you hit the dance floor in a jiffy. Both the ‘House Mix’
and ‘Energy Mix’ only succeed in making ‘Doorie’ a sensational musical
piece that would be heard for long.
Ehsaas (Original and Freaky Mix) [Produced by Atif, Lyrics: Uzma,
Shazad]
Time to hear a true blue Pakistani rock number in the form of ‘Ehsaas’
that comes across as a worthy follow up to ‘Doorie’. Very well written by
Uzma and Shazad, the song’s essence is plain and simple - True Love Is
Hard To Find But Is There For Everyone. Guitar plays a major role in
making this number come across as country song with a haunting appeal to it. Hear it on a long drive and you won’t mind playing it on and on. The
‘Freaky Mix’ by DJ Freak that comes at the album’s end is for the lounges
and the dance floors and would soon find a place in the wish list of the
up market DJs.
Hum Kis Galli Ja Rahe Hain (Original and Dance Mix) [Music: Sachin
Gupta, Lyrics: Sameer]
It’s the sound of guitar again to mark an opening for ‘Ham Kis Galli Ja
Rahe Hain’ where Atif really opens up his vocals and starts rendering it
in a way similar to that of Lucky Ali. A track sung prominently at a high
pitch, it is about a man who is on a journey towards an unknown
destination and doesn’t quite know where he would end up except for the
fact that there is a hope for him to find light at the end of the tunnel.
For those who are hardcore rock lovers, they would lap up the song but the ones looking for another song in the mould of a ‘Tere Bin’ or a ‘Doorie’ may well skip over to the next song in the line. Meanwhile, as is the trend with this album, there is a Dance Mix version by DJ Freak that comes later to keep the party hoppers happy, even though there is not much difference with the original here!
Kuch Is Tarah (Original and Euro Mix) [Music: Mithoon, Lyrics: Sayeed Quadri]
Well, the wait is not for long for a song soaked in melody to arrive as
Atif, Mithoon and Sayeed Quadri collaborate once again after their
superhit ‘Tere Bin’ [Bas Ek Pal] and come up with yet another potential
chartbuster ‘Kuch Is Tarah’. A track that could qualify as a ‘ghazal’ in
the way it has been rendered, paced and arranged, ‘Kuch Is Tarah’, it is
the one to be played on a candle light dinner while you get set to propose
the love of your life. A track about selfless love and a promise of
togetherness forever, it turns out to be the best of the enterprise so far
and one can’t wait to hear a full fledges album where the three come
together for an out and out musical score! Later in the album Goldeyy
comes up with a Euro Mix of the song and though it is not a bad job at
all, one would prefer the much slower ‘Kuch Is Tarah’ sans any beats in
the original number!
O Re Piya (Original and Trance Mix) [Music: Sachin Gupta, Lyrics:
Sachin Paul]
With a folkish feel to it, ‘O Re Piya’ which comes next is completely
different from the songs heard so far. With a distinct Indian rhythm to
it, the song is about waiting for one’s love to come back again. A song
about a man who is deep in love and just carries the memories of his love
in his heart, ‘O Re Piya’ is a kind of situational track that you hear as
a part of background score for Bollywood films. The song takes a complete about turn in the ‘Trance Mix’ version as DJ Freak gets his own brand of freaky mix to it and makes it much more spicy and zingy!
Mahi Ve (Original and Eternal Mix) [Produced by Atif Aslam, Lyrics:
Atif Aslam]
‘Mahi Ve’ starts off on a slow note and promises an outing similar to that
of ‘Kuch Is Tarah’ but in a matter of 30 seconds it becomes similar to
‘Ehsaas’ in the way it has been orchestrated. A rock track with guitar as
an accompanying partner once again, it follows a traditional route but
still manages to keep your interested in the proceedings. Nonetheless, the wait is still for a romantic ballad from Atif since this is what one loves
to hear most from him. As expected, DJ Freak comes again to create an
‘Eternal Mix’ that starts with a female coming up with an English passage
before Atif makes an entry.
Mahiya Ve Soniya (Original and Soul Mix) [Music: Sachin Gupta, Lyrics: Sameer]
Sachin Gupta and Sameer collaborate once again for ‘Mahiya Ve Soniya’, a track that has newcomer Tara marking an opening with her English
rendition. A track that could well be the next potential chartbuster if a
good music video is created around it, it has a funky’n'cool appeal to it
that makes it an enjoyable hear. With western arrangements fused well with an Indian melody and a sufi base, ‘Mahiya Ve Soniya’ also reminds one of ‘Soorat Pe Teri Pyaar Aaye’ [Footpath] for which Himesh Reshammiya had composed years back. When DJ Freak arrives for the remix, one expects yet another jazzed up version but this time around he does it different by converting it into an Indian celebration track by using ‘dholki’ at just the right places!
Maula [Music: Sachin Gupta, Lyrics: Sachin Gupta]
Next comes a ‘qawalli’ titled ‘Maula’ that only helps in adding some more
variety to this thoroughly enjoyable album. Sachin Gupta shows his prowess as a composer/lyricist who can create different songs for different moods and yet bring a distinct style that is uncommon from what you have heard in the past. Same holds good for ‘Maula’ which is unlike conventional ‘qawallis’ and is worthy to be placed as a part of a film’s soundtrack.
Yakeen (Original and Club Mix) [Produced by Atif Aslam, Lyrics: Atif
Aslam]
Country music is heard yet again in ‘Yakeen’ and out of all the three
compositions produced by Atif, this one turns out to be the best. As a
last song of the album, this beautiful piece of melody is just the right
conclusion as the song moves at a slow and even pace with vocals taking
center stage. If you have been fond of songs coming from the stable of
Lucky Ali, you would surely be giving ‘Yakeen’ a lot of hearings. Goldeyy comes up with a ‘Club Mix’ later on and with due credit to him, the song turns out to be an entirely different experience hence making both the versions enjoyable in their own right
